A paper by Kanungo and Jain (2008) highlights the paradoxical relationship between emails and stress. On one hand, emails are extremely helpful at the workplace; however they can lead to reduced productivity and ultimately increased stress levels. Most people will attest that constantly checking and responding to your inbox can lower your ability to multitask, decrease focus and amplify stress. So why not try minimizing the inbox screen so that it is not in constant view. This could help to improve ones productivity and hopefully lessen stress levels. For people whose job requires continual access to email, perhaps try to set a limit and only peek at your inbox once per hour. Give this a try to see if it helps!
