On the First Day of Well-mas

On the first day of Well-Mas, Santa gave to me a desire to be stress-free.

 What is stress?

            Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upsets your balance in some way. It’s your body’s automatic defense when you sense danger, known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction. Often stress can be a good thing, helping you stay focused and alert, but when you feel too stressed too often it becomes impairing to your productivity, your mood and your overall health.


What are the signs of stress?

  • Aches and pains
  • Eating more or less
  • Poor judgment
  • Constant worrying
  • Memory problems
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Constipation or diarrhea
  • Using alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to relax 

 

What are the common causes of stress?

  • Major life changes
  • Work
  • Financial problems
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Being too busy
  • Perfectionism
  • Negative self-talk
  • Unrealistic expectation

What are some ways to manage with stress?

 

  • Know where the stress comes from
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat a healthy diet
  • Get a massage
  • Avoid leaving things to the last minute
  • Go for a walk
  • Make time to relax
  • Learn to manage you time
  • Get enough sleep
  • Make realistic goals
