Grilled Portobello Burgers

This delicious recipe will satisfy vegetarians and meat lovers alike! Its a great twist on the classic hamburger. The toppings are optional of course  and you can change it up and make it your own by adding your favourite condiments. I found the original recipe here and made a couple modifications.


  • 4 large portobello mushrooms, stemmed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegarportobello burger
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 4 whole grain buns

Onion Jam Topping

  • 3 red onion
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup red wine vinegar

Horseradish Cream Topping

  • 2/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 tbsp


  • Wisk the horseradish and yogurt together
  • Heat 2 tbsp on oil in a skillet over medium heat
  • Add the onions and cook, covered for 10-15 minutes or until wilted
  • Add red wine and simmer until almost all of it is absorbed
  • Add the honey and red wine vinegar and let simmer for about 15 minutes
  • In a  bowl whisk together the oil garlic and balsamic vinegar
  • Coat the mushrooms all over with the mixture
  • Grill the mushrooms, turning as needed, until tender
  • Serve on a bun with the onion jam, horseradish cream and any of your other favourite condiments
